Worried About Your Water? Signs You Need To Have Your Water Tested

Posted on

If your home is connected to a municipal water source, you may assume that your water is of good quality. Unfortunately, that might not be the case. Municipal water is tested on a regular basis, but that doesn't mean that contamination can't happen. In fact, municipal water supplies can suffer contamination on a regular basis. In 2019, the water supply to 600 homes was adversely affected when the supply was contaminated with copper and lead. Because of the risk for contamination, it's important that you take it upon yourself to have your water tested on a regular basis. If you're not sure if your water needs to be tested, read the list provided below. If you experience any of the issues described here, it's time to have your water tested.

Your Family has Stomach Problems

Water problems can present themselves in a variety of ways. One of those ways is through stomach troubles. Some of the stomach troubles can include diarrhea, cramps, and nausea. Unfortunately, many people don't realize that their stomach issues are related to contaminated water, especially if their home is connected to a municipal water source. If you and your family have been experiencing frequent stomach upset, and the doctor can't identify a cause for the problem, have your water tested right away. There's a good chance that your stomach ailments are related to your residential water.

Your Laundry is Coming Out Stained

If your laundry has been leaving the washing machine looking less than clean, it's time to have your water tested. You might not know this, but hard water can actually discolor your clothing, especially your white clothing. Some areas of discoloration include under the arms, and around the collar. Not only that, but hard water can also cause a white film to develop on dark clothing. If you're noticing any of those issues with your clean laundry, have your water tested right away. There's a good chance that your water is too hard.

Your Last City Water Report Was Bad

If you receive your water from a municipal water company, you need to track their routine water testing results. The annual water test results will let you know what's in the water you're drinking. If the annual tests show questionable results, it's a good idea to arrange for your own testing. Independent testing will allow you to determine how safe your water supply really is. If your independent results show contamination, or that the municipal water has high mineral content, you'll want to have a water treatment system installed in your home.
